Information for Respite Care Providers
A Respite Care Provider can offer families temporary relief from the emotional and physical demands of caring for a child with complex needs. Their responsibilities may include supervising the child and assisting with in-home activities and care, engaging in fun activities with the child either in-home or out in the community, and accompanying children to registered programs.
Families require caregivers for a variety of possible scenarios… for a few hours during the day, on an ongoing/regularly scheduled basis, before/after school care, for last-minute emergencies, to provide support during camps and other scheduled activities.
Respite Care Providers will negotiate the details of their contract directly with the families.
RCP Requirements
- Applicants must have skills, interests and abilities in supporting a child or youth with a disability or mental health diagnosis.
- Applicants must submit a cover letter, resume, and 3 references to the Respite Services Coordinator.
- Current Criminal Record Check (Vulnerable Sector).
- A First Aid Certificate or other specialized education may be required by the family.
Respite Care Providers listed on Cridge Respite Connect are not employees of The Cridge Centre for the Family, but rather independent contractors to be hired directly by families.
