Survive Strive Thrive is an annual one-day conference that focuses on the firsthand experiences of brain injury survivors and their families, best practices and the latest research in the field. The purpose is to provide education to healthcare professionals, students, and survivors and their families on the best practices, challenges and solutions to create greater awareness, improved services and faster reintegration into the community for survivors.

In 2014, we decided to test the theory that there is “power in a story” by bringing together approximately 30 participants to listen to four individuals recount their journey of surviving a brain injury. We were utterly astounded by the positive impact of sharing these stories. We witnessed firsthand the healing that takes place from the telling of one’s story and the sense of hope it bestows on the listener. We were hooked!
In 2015, we began a partnership with the University of Victoria to present Survive Strive Thrive to a broader audience. This free one-day educational event focuses on the firsthand experiences of brain injury survivors and their families and is open to and attended by survivors, family and community members, professionals, and students in medicine, nursing, education, social work, counselling, occupational, recreation, speech-language, and physical therapies.
