The Cridge Centre for the Family has been providing brain injury services since 1991. We are committed to providing supportive services for survivors of brain injury in Greater Victoria that provide a continuum of care, support, and opportunity. We strive to support survivors in redesigning their lives to achieve their maximum potential.
Our Brain Injury program works to retrain and re-engage survivors, to ensure that they have meaningful activity, including volunteer opportunities, viable employment, and are functioning and healthy members of our community. Statistics show that brain injury is often the catalyst that begins a downward spiral for survivors into poverty, homelessness, addiction, and criminal behaviour. Brain injury is often about loss – a loss of self, of essential relationships, of employment, and of the ability to engage with the community as the survivor previously did. This often results in mental health issues as the survivor struggles to regain what they have lost. Without appropriate supports, survivors often end up in a cycle of poverty.
But it doesn’t have to be that way! Given the opportunity to retrain, to re-engage and to be valued, we see survivors doing the hard work every day to contribute, to be healthy and to be a part of their community. We have successfully worked with BI survivors for the past 25 years, helping them to reintegrate into society and supporting them to live healthy and productive lives.
We are proud to announce that our Brain Injury program is now producing a podcast by survivors for survivors. This valuable resource will encourage any brain injury survivor and offer them resources and tools to live with their injury.
Did you know that up to 80% of women who have been in a violent relationship have received at least one brain injury from their partner. For more information: www.cridge.org/ipv-bi/
